The fourth Sunday after Easter.
1 |
O God, to Thee our hearts we lift to fill them with Thy love; our every good and perfect gift descendeth from above. |
2 |
Thou only orderest the will of every human mind; Thou only canst the passions still, and the affections bind. |
3 |
Thou only canst Thy people draw, to follow, to obey, to love the strictness of Thy law, to seek the perfect way. |
4 |
Thou only kindlest in the heart the flame of sacred fire that burns salvation to impart, with vehement desire. |
5 |
O grant to us, thy people here, our earnest love to prove; our hearts Thy promised kingdom cheer, and our affections move: |
6 |
Thus faith, with ever-strength’ning wing, shall urge her upward flight; and love await her God and King, her everlasting light! |

O Almighty God, who alone canst order the unruly wills and affections of sinful men; grant unto thy people, that they may love the thing which thou commandest, and desire that which thou dost promise; that so, among the sundry and manifold changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed, where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
