Second Sunday in Advent.
1 |
Most blessed Lord, Whose gracious love has given for our sake the Holy Spirit from above, Prophets and Scribes to make; And through Thy holy Church on earth hast made complete the sum of Scriptures of divinest worth, until thy kingdom come: |
2 |
O give to us, Thy people here, such grace Thy word to read, to mark, to learn, to search, to hear, and inwardly to feed: that we, by patience taught of Thee, and comfort of Thy word, aye holding fast our hope, may see Thy face, O blessed Lord! |
3 |
May view in everlasting life the glories of Thy love, and, freed from tears, and sin, and strife, may feast with Thee above. To Thee, Who didst the Tempter quell with words of holy lore, with Father, Spirit, One, dost dwell, be glory evermore. |

Tune | Resignation from Southern Harmony, 1835 |
Blessed Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning; Grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that by patience, and comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace, and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
