The Ascension-Day.

Mighty God, Thee e’er believing, with joy the heavenly truth receiving: ascended in His glorious state comes the Christ, through heaven’s gate shining, His place and ours fore’er defining; rejoicing angels on Him wait. Resplendent, glorious! Jesus, victorious: alleluia! He from this land His way did wend to highest heaven to ascend! Grant, we ask, Thy grace embracing, that we, His upward path e’er tracing, may warm our thoughts to thither bend. To dwell with our Friend unchanging, His virtue for our own exchanging, may we in heart and mind ascend. In heaven up above, by His profoundest love: alleluia! To our Lord dear let us draw near, by faith from night discerning clear. Thou to us a path hast given, up which our steps must mount to heaven: unto each child of heavenly birth, Thou assignest earthly labor, us teaching love of God and neighbor, toil in itself of nothing worth. Yet what is done for Thee a firm reward shall be: alleluia! To our dull hearts Thy grace impart, to dwell with Christ above in thought. Glory, honor, praise e’er giving, we laud Him Who, now ever living, ascended by His power alone. Throned above, our Mediator! Our Advocate! no man hath greater! Jesus the Son, our God we own! So we from day to day our earnest praises pay: alleluia! To Father, Son and Spirit, One, all glory be, while ages run.

1 Mighty God, Thee e’er believing,
with joy the heavenly truth receiving:
ascended in His glorious state
comes the Christ, through heaven’s gate shining,
His place and ours fore’er defining;
rejoicing angels on Him wait.
Resplendent, glorious!
Jesus, victorious:
alleluia!
He from this land
His way did wend
to highest heaven to ascend!
2 Grant, we ask, Thy grace embracing,
that we, His upward path e’er tracing,
may warm our thoughts to thither bend.
To dwell with our Friend unchanging,
His virtue for our own exchanging,
may we in heart and mind ascend.
In heaven up above,
by His profoundest love:
alleluia!
To our Lord dear
let us draw near,
by faith from night discerning clear.
3 Thou to us a path hast given,
up which our steps must mount to heaven:
unto each child of heavenly birth,
Thou assignest earthly labor,
us teaching love of God and neighbor,
toil in itself of nothing worth.
Yet what is done for Thee
a firm reward shall be:
alleluia!
To our dull hearts
Thy grace impart,
to dwell with Christ above in thought.
4 Glory, honor, praise e’er giving,
we laud Him Who, now ever living,
ascended by His power alone.
Throned above, our Mediator!
Our Advocate! no man hath greater!
Jesus the Son, our God we own!
So we from day to day
our earnest praises pay:
alleluia!
To Father, Son
and Spirit, One,
all glory be, while ages run.

The Ascension-Day.

Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God, that like as we do believe thine only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to have ascended into the heavens; so we may also in heart and mind thither ascend, and with him continually dwell, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen.
