Surge, illuminare

Arise and shine; thy light is come: the glory of the Lord! The darkness covereth all the land; the gloom shall over soar. But over thee the Lord shall rise; His glory shall appear, and nations stream to heavenly light, and kings to daybreak clear. Thy gates shall open for all men, ne’er shutting night nor day, thou City of the Lord, wherein all Zion’s homage pay. All war and strife shall sound no more, and, ruin sent away, Salvation shalt thou call thy walls, and all thy portals, Praise. Sun’s beams shall cease to be thy light, and moon’s redundant be, for God’s own light shall shine upon His bless’d, gloried city. Glory to God! the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, all three: so as it was, so shall it be, for all eternity.

1 Arise and shine; thy light is come:
the glory of the Lord!
The darkness covereth all the land;
the gloom shall over soar.
But over thee the Lord shall rise;
His glory shall appear,
and nations stream to heavenly light,
and kings to daybreak clear.
2 Thy gates shall open for all men,
ne’er shutting night nor day,
thou City of the Lord, wherein
all Zion’s homage pay.
All war and strife shall sound no more,
and, ruin sent away,
Salvation shalt thou call thy walls,
and all thy portals, Praise.
3 Sun’s beams shall cease to be thy light,
and moon’s redundant be,
for God’s own light shall shine upon
His bless’d, gloried city.
Glory to God! the Father, Son
and Holy Ghost, all three:
so as it was, so shall it be,
for all eternity.

Surge, illuminare · Is 60:1-3, 11a, 14c, 18-19

Arise, shine; for thy light is come, *
  and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.

For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, *
  and gross darkness the people:

but the Lord shall arise upon thee, *
  and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, *
  and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; *
  they shall not be shut day nor night;

and they shall call thee; The city of the Lord, *
  The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, *
  wasting nor destruction within thy borders;

but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, *
  and thy gates Praise.

The sun shall be no more thy light by day; *
  neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee:

but the Lord shall be unto thee an everlasting light, *
  and thy God thy glory.

Arise, shine, for your light has come, *
  and the glory of the Lord has dawned upon you.

For behold, darkness covers the land; *
  deep gloom enshrouds the peoples.

But over you the Lord will rise, *
  and his glory will appear upon you.

Nations will stream to your light, *
  and kings to the brightness of your dawning.

Your gates will always be open; *
  by day or night they will never be shut.

They will call you, The City of the Lord, *
  The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

Violence will no more be heard in your land, *
  ruin or destruction within your borders.

You will call your walls, Salvation, *
  and all your portals, Praise.

The sun will no more be your light by day; *
  by night you will not need the brightness of the moon.

The Lord will be your everlasting light, *
  and your God will be your glory.
