St. Stephen's Day.
| 1 |
Lord, if we suffer for Thy sake to testify for Thee, with joy our crosses let us take, Thine own disciples be. |
| 2 |
Enable us in steadfast love our upward look to keep, by faith to penetrate above, and faith’s reward to reap. |
| 3 |
May we by faith behold Thy seat, as faithful Stephen saw, with rev’rence bow before Thy feet, worship with holy awe. |
| 4 |
So let Thy Holy Ghost descend; our precious inmate be, our constant, our unchanging Friend, to lead us after Thee! |
| 5 |
For hate, to make us yield back love, by His Almighty aid, as holy Stephen gazed above, and for his murd’rers prayed; |
| 6 |
Jesus! Thy own first martyr’s trust, our only pleader Thou! Our Mediator, Holy, Just: before Thy throne we bow. |

Grant, O Lord, that, in all our sufferings here upon earth for the testimony of thy truth, we may steadfastly look up to heaven, and by faith behold the glory that shall be revealed; and, being filled with the Holy Ghost, may learn to love and bless our persecutors by the example of thy first Martyr St. Stephen, who prayed for his murderers to thee, O blessed Jesus, who standest at the right hand of God to succor all those that suffer for thee, our only Mediator and Advocate. Amen.
