Good Friday. (I)
1 |
Behold, O God, Thy ransomed race! Redeemed slaves by heavenly grace, roused from the depths of sin and woe, our Master, Lord, and God to know: as children kneeling at Thy feet, our Father’s blessing we entreat. |
2 |
For us! Thy Holy Son was sent, for us! to die was well content, for us! was here by man betrayed, for us! a perfect offering made: as children kneeling at Thy feet, our Father’s blessing we entreat. |
3 |
For us! He took a Savior’s name; for us! He bore the cross and shame; for us! descended to the grave for us! who slew, did pardon crave: as children kneeling at Thy feet, our Father’s blessing we entreat. |
4 |
And what are we, that from on high, Jesus our Lord should come to die? Rebellious, helpless, lost, undone, then spake Messias, “see Thy Son!” to bring these sinners to Thy feet, a Father’s blessing to entreat. |
5 |
World without end forever more, let Thy redeemed their praises pour, joining with all the heavenly host, to Father, Son, and Holy Ghost! One God! We worship at Thy feet! The Triune blessing we entreat! |

Tune | St. Petersburg Dimitri S. Bortniansky (1751-1825) |
Almighty God, we beseech thee graciously to behold this thy family, for which our Lord Jesus Christ was contented to be betrayed, and given up into the hands of wicked men, and to suffer death upon the cross, who now liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
