Tuesday in Whitsun-Week.
1 |
God the Spirit, we aspire to recieve those tongues of fire: sanctify the high desire: descend unto us, O Lord! |
2 |
Magnify Thy gifts of grace in all those who seek Thy face, in their due appointed place: \l |
3 |
God the Spirit, we beseech, sanctify the gift of speech to those called Thy word to preach: \l |
4 |
Give to us the hearing ear; give to us the heart to fear; give the penitential tear: \l |
5 |
Cause the rightful seed be sown; when the blade be newly grown, deign Thy gracious work to own: \l |
6 |
Let the plant deeprooted be, watered, nurtured, aye by Thee, ‘til the fruits of faith we see: |
7 |
Come! O come, descend and bring Christ the glorious Lord and King in His perfect triumphing: descend unto us, O Lord! |

Tune | Tunbridge melody by Jeremiah Clarke (c. 1674-1707) |
God, who as at this time didst teach the hearts of thy faithful people, by the sending to them the light of thy Holy Spirit; grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through the merits of Christ Jesus our Savior, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the same Spirit, one God, world without end. Amen.
