The Sunday called Sexagesima, or the second Sunday before Lent.
1 |
Omniscient God, Who seeest all, prostrate before Thy face we fall, no action ours, however just, in which we place our hope or trust. |
2 |
Defiled by sin is all we do; we dare not bide Thy searching view; Thy mercy is our only plea, our one safe trust we find in Thee. |
3 |
Defend us by Thy mighty power, in every dark and adverse hour; in sorrow, sadness, doubt, or fear, teach us to know our God is near. |
4 |
Should persecution’s fire arise, should evil men our homes surprise, should pestilence walk all around, should famine in our land be found: |
5 |
Defend us by Thy mighty power, in every dark and adverse hour; almighty aid and strength afford to us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. |

O Lord God, who seest that we put not our trust in anything that we do; mercifully grant that by thy power we may be defended against all adversity; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
