The ninth Sunday after Trinity.
1 |
O Lord, Who hearest every weary sigh: grant to our prayer the Spirit from on high to sanctify our thoughts, and guide aright our wills, our words, our weakness, and our might. |
2 |
Our strength is very weakness, but in Thee our utter weakness very strength can be; guard, govern, guide, be our Inspirer still; so may we live according to Thy will. |
3 |
So may we even glorify Thy name, if Thou our fierce and earthdrawn spirits tame! Our wills subject, our sinstained hearts subdue, the Spirit’s breathing making all things new. |
4 |
God, Who hast sanctified the gift of speech, so sanctify our hearts, we Thee beseech; to us Thy holy effluence afford; hear Thou our prayer, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. |

Tune | Song 22 melody and bass Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625) |
Grant to us, Lord, we beseech thee, the spirit to think and do always such things as be rightful; that we, who cannot do anything that is good without thee, may by thee be enabled to live according to thy will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
