The sixth Sunday after the Epiphany.

O God, Whose everblessed Son was manifested to the world, that counsels of the evil one by Christ might be to ruin hurled: And by His wondrous advent we should gain the gift of Heavenly life, the Sons of God should called be, and armed to wage the sacred strife. Having this hope so sealed sure with God’s own promises of grace, O sanctify us; make us pure, meet through Christ’s blood to see His face. That when again He comes in might, in heavenly glory to appear, we stand approved in His sight, by Him entitled to draw near. Thus may we glorious entrance gain through the belov’d eternal Son, where Father, Spirit, aye doth reign, most mighty, holy, Three in One.

1 O God, Whose everblessed Son
was manifested to the world,
that counsels of the evil one
by Christ might be to ruin hurled:
2 And by His wondrous advent we
should gain the gift of Heavenly life,
the Sons of God should called be,
and armed to wage the sacred strife.
3 Having this hope so sealed sure
with God’s own promises of grace,
O sanctify us; make us pure,
meet through Christ’s blood to see His face.
4 That when again He comes in might,
in heavenly glory to appear,
we stand approved in His sight,
by Him entitled to draw near.
5 Thus may we glorious entrance gain
through the belov’d eternal Son,
where Father, Spirit, aye doth reign,
most mighty, holy, Three in One.

Tune Verbum supernum prodiens
plainsong, Mode 8, 13th cent.

The sixth Sunday after the Epiphany.

O God, whose blessed Son was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil, and make us the sons of God, and heirs of eternal life; grant us, we beseech thee, that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves, even as he is pure; that, when he shall appear again with power and great glory, we may be made like unto him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where with thee, O Father, and thee, O Holy Ghost, he liveth and reigneth, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
