The Second Collect, for Peace.
1 |
O God, the author of eternal peace, at Whose command the winds and waters cease their wild and angry raging: |
2 |
Lover of concord, hater of all strife, in Whose deep knowledge stands our heavenly life, eternal love engaging: |
3 |
Thy gracious service yields a sacred calm; on wounded spirits pours divinest balm, o’er anguished hearts prevailing. |
4 |
O evermore be Thou our sole defense! Say to our enemy, “Depart thou hence!” Sustain us in all failing. |
5 |
In the dear love of Jesus Christ our Lord, our Savior, God, the everlasting Word, Whose might there is no letting. |

Tune | Alleluia perenne W. H. Monk (1823-1889) |
O God, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom; defend us thy humble servants in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries, through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
