St. Mark's Day.
1 |
O God, Who for Thy Church’s good the Twelve didst join in brotherhood, giving them at the appointed hour gifts of the Holy Ghost with power: |
2 |
Sending them forth to preach Thy word, to plant the kingdom of the Lord, in darkness to hold forth the light, Thy will to do, Thy Gospel write: |
3 |
Thou many hearts with zeal didst fire; with love their souls Thou didst inspire in Thine Apostles’ steps to tread, their doctrine, faith, and love to spread. |
4 |
Saint Mark, with heavenly doctrine fraught, unto Thy Church Thy love has taught; give grace that we may truth recieve, and practice all that we believe. |
5 |
Growing in love, may we be led still onwards, till on us be shed all blessings promised in Thy word to faith and love, through Christ our Lord. |

Tune | A la venue de Noël melody from Fleurs de noëls, 1535 |
O Almighty God, who hast instructed thy holy Church with the heavenly doctrine of thy Evangelist Saint Mark; give us grace, that, being not like children carried away with every blast of vain doctrine, we may be established in the truth of thy holy Gospel; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
