St. Mark's Day.
O God, Who for Thy Church’s good
the Twelve didst join in brotherhood,
giving them at the appointed hour
gifts of the Holy Ghost with power:
Sending them forth to preach Thy word,
to plant the kingdom of the Lord,
in darkness to hold forth the light,
Thy will to do, Thy Gospel write:
Thou many hearts with zeal didst fire;
with love their souls Thou didst inspire
in Thine Apostles’ steps to tread,
their doctrine, faith, and love to spread.
Saint Mark, with heavenly doctrine fraught,
unto Thy Church Thy love has taught;
give grace that we may truth recieve,
and practice all that we believe.
Growing in love, may we be led
still onwards, till on us be shed
all blessings promised in Thy word
to faith and love, through Christ our Lord.

melody from Fleurs de noëls, 1535
O Almighty God, who hast instructed thy holy Church with the heavenly doctrine of thy Evangelist Saint Mark; give us grace, that, being not like children carried away with every blast of vain doctrine, we may be established in the truth of thy holy Gospel; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
