Third Sunday in Lent.

Almighty God, at Thy command appeared the new enfranchised land; the sea his ancient hold forsook, and his appointed bound’ry took; still roll his waves in neverending tale, and roar in vain, all hopeless to prevail. Almighty God, as yesterday, so is Thy glorious pow’r today. O while Thy grace our prayer inspires, with favor see our hearts’ desires! Stretch forth the right hand of Thy majesty, our sure defense against our enemy. See ocean’s might his waves upheaves, behind what deep abysses leaves, bounds ever on with threat’ning roar, but breaks in bubbles on the shore, touches the line drawn there at Thy command, and owns the pow’r of Thy uplifted hand! So keep us ever in the place we hold by Thy redeeming grace; Thyself unto our souls disclose, a Refuge sure from all our foes. By thy right hand of majesty, afford grace, pow’r, defense, through Jesus Christ our Lord!

1 Almighty God, at Thy command
appeared the new enfranchised land;
the sea his ancient hold forsook,
and his appointed bound’ry took;
still roll his waves in neverending tale,
and roar in vain, all hopeless to prevail.
2 Almighty God, as yesterday,
so is Thy glorious pow’r today.
O while Thy grace our prayer inspires,
with favor see our hearts’ desires!
Stretch forth the right hand of Thy majesty,
our sure defense against our enemy.
3 See ocean’s might his waves upheaves,
behind what deep abysses leaves,
bounds ever on with threat’ning roar,
but breaks in bubbles on the shore,
touches the line drawn there at Thy command,

Third Sunday in Lent.

We beseech thee, Almighty God, look upon the hearty desires of thy humble servants, and stretch forth the right hand of thy Majesty, to be our defense against all our enemies; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
